Hassan Lok Sabha member Shreyas M. Patel on Sunday visited the area in Belur taluk infamous for human-elephant conflict, and interacted with Forest Department officials on the measures taken to avoid such incidents.
Mr. Patel held a discussion with members of the Elephant Task Force and the staff engaged with the task of tracking the movement of elephants and driving them back to forests. The MP was also apprised of the challenges that the field staff face on a daily basis. During the discussion, he inquired about the measures the officials were taking to tackle human-elephant conflicts in Hassan, and how they were different from the ones taken in other districts.
The staff gave a demonstration on the use of thermal drones, which helps officials track the movement of elephants in the area, said a press release issued by Sourabh Kumar, Deputy Conservator of Forests.
Mr. Patel was accompanied by Mr. Kumar, Assistant Conservator of Forests Mohan V.S., and other officers of the department.
