DMDK general secretary Premallatha Vijayakant on Thursday said the AIADMK was duty bound to allot a Rajya Sabha seat to her party.
Speaking to the media in Pudukottai, she said it had been agreed upon during the Lok Sabha election in 2024 to provide five Lok Sabha seats and a Rajya Sabha seat to the DMDK. The DMDK had “agreed wholeheartedly” to the Upper House seats being allotted to Anbumani Ramadoss (PMK) and G.K. Vasan (TMC (Moopanar)) on earlier occasions.
“It is our turn this time and, hence, it is the duty of the AIADMK to allot the Rajya Sabha seat to the DMDK,” Ms. Premallatha said, adding that the AIADMK should keep its word and prove its trustworthiness to the people and party cadre. In politics, keeping your word is important and people would trust those who keep their word, she remarked.
Asked what would be the stand of the DMDK if the AIADMK did not allot the seat to her party, Ms. Premallatha said: “Let us see.” She welcomed the decision of the DMK to allot a Rajya Sabha seat to the Makkal Needhi Maiyam in its alliance as promised. To a query, she said the DMDK would organise a conference at Cuddalore in January next year during which the party’s stand on alliance would be announced.
