Bike Taxi Welfare Association claims that lakhs of bike taxi drivers in Karnataka are facing a livelihood crisis as services remain suspended. In a statement issued, the Bike Taxi Welfare Association (BTWA) said that drivers have been left without work for weeks and fear further setbacks if action is taken against app platforms such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido.
“App platforms are our only lifeline to connect with customers, comply with regulations, and earn daily wages. Without them, we have no way to sustain our families,” said Adi Narayan, president of BTWA.
The association has appealed to platforms to grant drivers free access to their technology so they can resume operations. “We are being assured of support, and we hope for swift action to restore livelihoods and urban mobility in Karnataka,” Mr. Narayan added.
However, despite the court’s clarification, aggregators continue to operate bike taxis. On August 23, all three platforms such as Rapido, Ola, and Uber resumed bike taxi services.
