Boarding and alighting from Nanganallur station will get easier for Chennai Metro Rail commuters as the second entry/exit point for this station will be ready in eight months.
For nine years since the opening of the station, commuters have had only one entry/exit point in this station unlike many other stations in the phase I network where there are four entry/exit points.
As land was not available back then, Chennai Metro Rail could build only entry/exit point (in the direction of Guindy to the airport side of GST Road). Subsequently, they pursued this case with authorities of Officers Training Academy (OTA), Ministry of Defence and recently received the land. Meanwhile, the name of the station was changed to ‘OTA-Nanganallur Road Metro Station’ in November last year.
According to officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), they floated bids sometime back and have now awarded the contract to Sri Radha Constructions at a cost of ₹8.52 crore for building the second entry/exit point for this station. The construction will be completed in another eight months, after which commuters can access the OTA-Nanganallur Road Metro Station from both sides of GST Road.
