The uniqueness of Chennai is the deep-rooted connection the people of the city have with Indian Railways, says Shailendra Singh, Chennai Divisional Railway Manager of the Southern Railway.

Though I have only recently taken over the reins of the division, I have known Chennai to be not only a cultural and economic capital of south India, but also a vital nerve centre for Indian Railways in handling the highest passenger footfalls and train movements in the country, Mr. Shailendra Singh says.

Chennai city is home to three iconic railway terminals that have played a pivotal role in shaping the history and connectivity of the country. The three terminals of Royapuram (1856), Chennai Central (1873) and Chennai Egmore (1905) have been serving as gateways to southern India, facilitating travel and commerce for centuries.

For seamless movement

For the seamless and efficient movement of commuters and freight I would like to salute the resilience and commitment of all railway employees who keep this vast network running efficiently.

Also, let us recognise the city’s unparalleled contribution to the nation’s railway system and reaffirm our dedication to provide safe and efficient services.”
