Commending Prime Minister Narendra Modi for nominating Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan as the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) candidate for the vice-presidential election, BJP Puducherry unit president V.P. Ramalingam said it shows the recognition that the BJP bestows on ordinary workers of the party.

Addressing a press conference at the party office, Mr. Ramalingam said Mr. Radhakrishnan rose to his current position after working at the grassroots level of the BJP in Tamil Nadu. He served as the Lt. Governor of Puducherry for a brief period, he added.

“His candidature shows how the BJP recognises the hard work of ordinary workers. The decision to nominate him is also a testament to the love and affection Prime Minister Narendra Modi bestows on the people of Tamil Nadu and the State. Now, it is the duty of political parties in Tamil Nadu to unanimously support the candidature of Mr. Radhakrishnan. Those who claim to be champions of the Tamil culture should extend support to Mr. Radhakrishnan,” the BJP leader said.

Responding to a question on the delay in allocating a portfolio to BJP MLA A. John Kumar, who was recently inducted into the Cabinet, he said the party would talk to Chief Minister N. Rangasamy regarding a decision soon.
