Education Minister Ashish Sood on Wednesday took cognisance of waterlogging in government-run schools in Nithari and Kirari in north-west Delhi and Molarband and Madanpur Khadar in south-east Delhi and directed the department to fix the issue.
Mr. Sood said that for several years, many schools in the Capital have been facing waterlogging during the monsoon.
“In several cases, the ground level of schools is lower than the surrounding areas, resulting in rainwater quickly flooding the campuses. Unfortunately, there has been no permanent or effective drainage system in place,” he said.
The Minister said that due to this problem, classes are disrupted every year, and the safety of thousands of students and staff is put at risk.
Mr. Sood directed the Education Department to coordinate with concerned departments and ensure immediate resolution of waterlogging and related issues, as per an official statement.
