Madurai Ladies Circle No. 8 along with Devadoss Hospital organised a district-level sports event for persons with disabilities here on Tuesday.
The sports meet, called “Limitless,” attracted 380 participants in under-15 and under-19 category.
The athletic events included shotput, discuss, long jump and javelin for the visually impaired, amputees, intellectually challenged, and hearing impaired.
Sathish Devadoss, Vice-Chairman of Devadoss Hospital, said “Limitless” was an apt name for the event as the participants turned up with enthusiasm to achieve excellence ignoring all their disabilities. “To achieve something need not necessarily mean winning. Mere participation can be considered a success,” he added.
Aparna Vikram, Secretary, Madurai Ladies Circle 8, said the third edition of the sports meet signified the ability of the persons with disabilities in excelling in sports.
“By winning at the district-level, they can extend their success by getting more training and participating at the State-level and national-level events,” she added.
