With the discharge from Stanley Reservoir in Mettur into River Cauvery expected to cross one lakh cusecs, officials from the Revenue Department, police, and local bodies continued to monitor riverbanks and low-lying areas across the district on Tuesday.

At 4 p.m., the inflow was 1,01,227 cusecs, while the water level stood at 118.37 feet against the full reservoir level (FRL) of 120 feet. Storage was 90.895 tmc ft against the capacity of 93.47 tmc ft. The discharge into the river was 50,000 cusecs, of which 28,700 cusecs was released through the 16-vent Ellis Saddle surplus sluices and 21,300 cusecs through the dam’s power houses. Irrigation discharge through the East–West Bank canals continued at 500 cusecs. The dam is likely to reach its full reservoir level, after which the entire inflow will be discharged into the river.

The Cauvery enters Erode district at Nerinjipettai and flows 84 km through Ammapettai, Bhavani, Karungalpalayam, and Kodumudi before entering Karur district. An official from the Disaster Management Department said 42 vulnerable spots across 30 revenue villages had been identified and were under watch. With a flood warning already in place, residents have been advised to remain cautious.
