The city’s civic body has sought a report from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) over a crack in a concrete slab on Ejipura flyover in Bengaluru, where work is ongoing. The project designer has also been told to give an opinion on the next course of action.

On August 17 night, concrete chunks from a prefabricated segment on the elevated corridor fell on an autorickshaw standing below, damaging the vehicle and causing minor injuries to the driver, triggering panic.

“The concrete segment has developed a crack. While launching the segment, due to human error, there has been a misalignment and the load has been transferred to the wrong end. Since that end of the segment was not designed for bearing such load, it has developed a crack. We have halted work, and sought an opinion from IISc. and the project designer as to what should be our next course of action,” explained Raghavendra Prasad, Chief Engineer, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

The work on the 2.38-km Ejipura flyover was launched in 2017, and has been much delayed. After the work stopped due to issues with the earlier contractor, work was restarted by a new contractor. The civic body is working towards opening the flyover in March 2026.
