Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner H. V. Darshan declared a holiday for all schools and anganwadis in the district on August 18 in view of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing red alert for the coastal belt of Karnataka.

The holiday applies to all government, private and government aided private schools.

The District Disaster Management Authority advised fishermen to stay away from marine fishing, and people were advised not to visit beaches and river banks.

Holiday declared for schools in Belagavi district

Following widespread rains, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan has declared a holiday for anganwadis, primary and high schools, and pre-university colleges in Belagavi, Kittur, Bailhongal, Savadatti and Khanapur taluks in Belagavi district on August 18.

Holiday for schools and colleges in Uttara Kannada, Davanagere districts

Following incessant rainfall, the Deputy Commissioners of Uttara Kannada and Davanagere districts have declared a holiday for schools and colleges on August 18 in their respective districts.

While a holiday has been declared for all schools in Davanagere district, a holiday has been declared for schools and PU colleges in all the taluks of Uttara Kannada district except Mundagod taluk.

On account of the festivities as part of the last Monday of the Indian month of Shravana, a holiday has been declared for several schools and colleges in Dharwad district.
