Ernakulam District Collector G. Priyanka has said that the ‘Operation Breakthrough’ project for resolving flooding in the city will be further intensified.
She was addressing a meet-the-press organised by the Ernakulam Press Club, her first since assuming charge earlier this month, here on Saturday (August 16, 2025). “Restoration of the Mullassery Canal remains to be completed. Discussions will be held with the agencies concerned to proceed with the pending works,” Ms. Priyanka said.
The Collector welcomed the Kerala High Court’s interventions in various issues related to the city. A meeting will be held with stakeholders regarding the demolition and reconstruction of Chander Kunj Army Towers in Vytilla on August 20. The proposed evacuation and demolition will be discussed at the meeting.
Ms. Priyanka said that complaints about the voters’ list in various places in the district had come to her notice. Directions have been issued to local body secretaries to take corrective action wherever they come across problems.
The survey of migrant workers will be resumed. She hailed Project Roshni, meant for the education of migrant workers in the district. Ms. Priyanka cited title deed distribution, eradication of extreme poverty, coastal highway, Operation Breakthrough, land acquisition for the Kochi metro, and the Integrated Urban Regeneration & Water Transport System (IURWTS) as among the priority areas.
Besides, controlling lifestyle diseases and mental health were two projects close to her. “Stress levels are rising among both the elderly and children. There are plans to address this,” she said.
