Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, and Parliamentary Affairs, L. Murugan, on Thursday, took part in two “Har Ghar Tiranga” rallies held in Avadi and Royapuram.
According to a press release, the Minister said the tricolour rally, held on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, was to honour the freedom fighters who played a major role in the country’s struggle for independence, and to remember their sacrifices, according to a press release.
He added that the country had been witnessing growth in all sectors since 2014. In the last 11 years, more than 25 crore persons were lifted out from below poverty line, free ration items distributed to 80 crore persons, four crore houses built for the poor, and piped drinking water provided under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Mr. Murugan took part in a two-wheeler tricolour flag rally in Royapuram. He also honoured ex-servicemen. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had formed a separate Ministry for fisherfolk, and that the establishment of a tuna fishing harbour in Tiruvottriyur was beneficial for its fishers, the release said.
