Incessant rains battered several parts of Mancherial district over the past 24 hours, throwing the normal life out of gear.

A low-lying stretch of the kutcha road was flooded by a swollen stream at Doddigudem village in Tandur mandal of the district on Wednesday morning. A nine-month pregnant woman of the village developed labour pains on Wednesday morning. and she had to be carried in a stretcher through waist-deep water to the other side of the flooded road by her family members, sources said.

The local police helped them cross the stream safely and shifted her to the government hospital in the mandal headquarters in an ambulance. She gave birth to a baby boy at the hospital later in the day, sources added.

Bheemini mandal bore the brunt of the heavy overnight rainfall as several stretches of the Panchayat Raj (PR) roads were damaged at Rajaram, Chinna Thimmapur and Karjibheempur villages due to incessant rain. Bheemini mandal received 232.6 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours, sources added. Heavy rain battered several parts of Adilabad district on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, prompting the authorities to declare a local holiday for all primary, upper primary and high schools in Utnoor, Ichoda, Sirikonda, and Boath mandals on Wednesday.

Heavy overnight rain in Keramiri mandal in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district left the low-level bridge at Sangvi village snapping the road link to several villages in the mandal.  The water level in the Kadem dam in Nirmal district reached 695 feet as against the Full Reservoir Level of 700 feet on Wednesday afternoon. Two gates of the dam were lifted to discharge surplus water downstream.
