Anamika Ajith has been selected the junior bicycle mayor of Thiruvananthapuram for 2025 at an event held at Manaveeyam Veedhi on Wednesday.
With this selection, Thiruvananthapuram becomes the third in the country to have a junior bicycle mayor, a statement from the city’s bicycle mayor Prakash P. Gopinath said.
Anamika is a Plus One student of Government Model Girls Higher Secondary School, Pattom.
V.K. Prasanth, MLA, made the declaration. The junior bicycle mayor programme is part of the global bicycle mayor network, facilitated by the Amsterdam-based BYCS that envisions ‘50 by 30,’ making 50% of all city trips by bicycle by 2030.
In India, the programme is supported by BYCS India, with the city’s bicycle mayor spearheading the selection. The event was organised by the Indus Cycling Embassy and SheCycling.
