Coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh may receive very heavy rainfall on Wednesday (August 13, 2025) and Thursday (August 14), as a low pressure has been formed over west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, off north Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coasts at 5.30 a.m. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and become well-marked during the next 24 hours.
The A.P. State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has sounded a note of caution to the public as the districts of NTR, Krishna, West Godavari, Eluru, Guntur, Palnadu, Bapatla and Prakasam are likely to receive heavy rain on these two days.
Already, NTR and Guntur districts have received very heavy rainfall on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, leading to inundation of low-lying areas. Many small streams in Guntur district are overflowing, causing traffic jams on the outskirts of Guntur city.
In NTR district, Ibrahimpatnam received 142.8 mm rainfall between 6 a.m. on Tuesday and the corresponding time period on Wednesday. This is the highest amount of rainfall received by a station in the State this season. It was on August 30 and 31 last year that the district recorded such huge amounts of rainfall.
Flood warning issued after heavy inflows into Krishna
The APSDMA authorities have said the inflows into Krishna river will continue to increase. At 11 .20 a.m., the inflows at the Prakasam Barrage have touched 3,09,438 cusecs. The first warning is given when the inflows at the barrage cross 3.97 lakh cusecs.
In the backdrop, NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha has asked all field-level officers to be alert as the inflows may touch 5 lakh cusecs gradually. He instructed officials to set up flood warning boards immediately to alert public about the flood situation.
He urged public to not fall for fake news, and assured them that there is no flood threat to the Budameru at present. Last year, when it rained heavily in NTR district and Telangana, Budameru swelled causing floods in Vijayawada. The Collector said teams have been set up at the Velagaleru regulator for continuous monitoring.
A control room, with 9154970454, has been set up at the Collectorate. The officials are mapping low-lying areas, which can be evacuated in the event of a flood.
Meanwhile, in north coastal districts including Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, light rainfall is expected in the next three hours, according to a 11 .am. bulletin of the India Meteorological Department.
