In a road-rage incident in Bengaluru, a 58-year-old man was allegedly chased and assaulted by a group of men in front of his family inside an apartment complex at BTM 4th Stage in the wee hours of Sunday.

The victim, Mohammed Ishtiyaq, a fruit merchant, was allegedly kicked repeatedly and dragged, while he was trying to defend himself. As he started bleeding from his mouth, the accused, who barged into the apartment after chasing him, damaged his car and fled from the spot. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras present at the apartment premises. The victim went to the hospital to get himself treated before approaching the police.

Based on his complaint, the Hulimavu police have registered a case against a group of men charging them under sections 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 324(4) (mischief), 329(4) (criminal trespass), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS on Monday.

According to the FIR , Ishtiyaq, 58, was driving his car towards his house at 2.50 am on August 10, when a cab driver tried to stop him, alleging that his vehicle had made contact with the cab. When the victim tried to speed away, the suspects allegedly attacked his car with stones, damaging the windshield.

Ishtiyaq told the police that a group of unknown persons followed him, trespassed inside his apartment complex at BTM Layout 4th Stage, and began hurling expletives. At the time, his family was also reportedly present at the scene. When the victim tried to reason with them, the group allegedly punched him repeatedly on the face. This attack resulted in an injury to the victim’s lower lip; he also lost a few of his teeth and suffered a broken jaw, according to the FIR.

The police are on the lookout for the accused, who are reportedly on the run.
