The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, has issued an orange alert (be prepared) for Wednesday, August 13, covering the districts of Eluru, West Godavari, NTR, Krishna, Palnadu, Guntur, Bapatla, Prakasam, and Nandyal, forecasting heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.

A yellow alert has also been issued for the districts of Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, Kakinada, East Godavari, Konaseema, SPSR Nellore, Kurnool, Anantapur, YSR Kadapa and Tirupati on Wednesday. IMD has warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph likely across several parts of the state over the next three days.

The orange alert will remain in place on Thursday, August 14, for Palnadu, Guntur, Bapatla, and Prakasam districts. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected to persist in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh till August 18.

This system may intensify further in the next 48 hours. Another cyclonic circulation is present over north interior Karnataka at about 5.8 km above mean sea level.

On Tuesday, the major rainfall reported from various stations included: Komarada (Parvathipuram Manyam) – 10 cm, Bapatla – 8 cm, Macherla (Palnadu) – 7 cm, Araku Valley – 6 cm, and Sattenapalle (Palnadu) – 5 cm, among others.
