A minor spark and smoke erupted in one of the engines of an inbound international cargo flight arriving in Chennai on Tuesday (August 12, 2025). No one was injured, official sources said.
The flight was arriving from the Malaysian city of Kuala Lumpur. Smoke was observed coming from one of the engines upon landing, which led some sections of the media to report a major fire on board. However, officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) clarified that there was no major fire.
The spark erupted in one of the engines of the cargo flight during landing, prompting the pilots to alert the authorities concerned in Chennai. Though no emergency landing was made, pilots safely landed the aircraft, they said.
‘Incident blown out of proportion’
In a statement, the office of the Chennai Airport Director said, “It is hereby stated that there was no major fire in the engine during landing. There was a minor spark and some smoke, possibly due to oil, dirt, or residue. The aircraft did not suffer any damage. This incident has been blown out of proportion.”
