Incessant rains in Uttarkashi on Monday (August 11, 2025) hampered search operations in disaster-hit Dharali amid dimming hopes of any survivors under the rubble at the flood-ravaged site.
It is almost a week since raging waters and mudslides buried virtually half of Dharali village – the main stopover on way to Gangotri- on August 5, besides causing extensive damage to an army camp in Harsil.
Bad weather also hit the ongoing repair work of the damaged stretches of the Gangotri NH at Songad and Dabrani even though a vital Bailey bridge over Limchagad near Gangnani became operational, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said.
A 10-member team of geological experts, including some from the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, which is on its way to Dharali is also waiting for the Gangotri NH to open, he said.
However, Mr. Pandey expressed hope that road connectivity along the highway will be fully restored by Tuesday (August 12, 2025) evening.
Efforts were also on to drain a lake formed on the Bhagirathi river in the wake of the flash floods.
Inclement weather also slackened search for the missing people in the debris, officials said.
