Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday said the government will come up with a “comprehensive and well-structured” plan in compliance with the Supreme Court order on the relocation of stray dogs from city streets.
“The order holds great significance for us. Our foremost priority is to provide relief to the citizens of Delhi. This problem has now reached a critical stage, and we will address it through a comprehensive, well-structured plan to ensure that the people of Delhi get the relief they deserve,” the CM said at a press conference.
‘Previous govts. failed’
She accused the previous governments of failing to deal with the stray dog menace. “The people of Delhi have been grappling with the stray dog problem for years. Everyone is aware of how previous governments dealt with the issue and the state of affairs in the municipal corporation,” Ms. Gupta said.
She added, “After coming to power, we initiated discussions on the issue and began working towards a lasting solution.”
Reiterating Ms. Gupta’s assurance, Development Minister Kapil Mishra said the government will implement the apex court order promptly. “The court’s directions have removed all the existing obstacles in our way. We will implement the order with compassion and care for animals,” he said.
‘Freedom from fear’
The Minister added, “This order shows Delhi the way to freedom from the fear of rabies and stray animals. Under the leadership of CM Rekha Guptaji, the Animal Husbandry Department will study this order and move towards its proper implementation.”
