A 32-year-old man, Abhilash Kumar, was arrested on Monday for flashing a woman at Gurugram’s Rajiv Chowk, the police said.

The incident took place on the morning of August 2, when the woman was waiting for a taxi. The accused, who is married and has a son, was coming back from a parent-teacher meeting at his son’s school when he committed the act. Mr. Kumar, a native of Karnal, is a civil engineer, who works as an assistant manager at a private firm in Gurugram’s Sector 49.

According to the police, Mr. Kumar’s face was covered with a mask when he committed the act. The woman recorded a video of the incident and uploaded it on her social media, following which the Gurugram police took suo motu cognisance of it and registered a case.

Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Gurugram police, Sandeep Kumar, said in a press conference that the lack of CCTVs at the spot where the incident occurred made it difficult to identify the accused. The police scrutinised the footage of several hundred CCTVs before it zeroed in on the suspect and arrested him in Sector 49, he added.

At present, the police are conducting a background check on Mr. Kumar to determine if he has any prior criminal record.
