The Kerala Fibre Optic Network (KFON), the State government’s Internet service provider, has recorded the biggest growth in subscribers in Thiruvananthapuram district. Till this week, a total of 7,367 connections have been provided by KFON in the district. While the number of commercial connections stands at 3,961, a total of 2,702 government offices are connected to the network in the capital. In addition, 867 below poverty line (BPL) households have been provided free Internet connections as part of the government initiative.

As part of KFON’s ‘Connecting the Unconnected’ project, which aims to digitise all tribal areas in Kerala, 103 homes in the Chonampara and Vallippara tribal regions of Kottoor have already been provided with Internet connections.
In addition, the project has delivered 53 Internet Leased Line (ILL) connections and 41 SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) connections in the region. A total of 218 local network operators are collaborating with KFON across different parts of the district to provide last mile connectivity.

For the past one and a half years, all offices in the Secretariat have been using K-FON connections, and the Legislative Assembly has been using the connection since June 2024. Various government department offices, Technopark, Kerala State Startup Mission, Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation and all its zonal offices and several other government agencies are also using the connection.

Across the State, the total connections now stand at 1.15 lakh, with a total of 74,203 home connections, 23,163 connections to government offices, 14,194 BPL connections, 3,044 enterprise connections, 10 darkfiber connections and 15 connections for special events.
