A youth was killed and his friend sustained injuries during a scuffle at a restobar in the city in the early hours of Sunday. The deceased was identified as Moshik Shanmugapriyan, 21, a student of a private college in Chennai.

Police said the victim along with 14 of his friends were drinking at a restobar in the Boulevard. One of the students had planned his birthday celebration at the restobar. An altercation broke out after the restobar owner Rajkumar allegedly asked the group to leave. This led to a confrontation that quickly escalated into violence between the students and bouncers in the bar. In the melee, one of the bouncers reportedly stabbed two students identified as Shanmugapriyan and Shajan with a knife.

The duo was rushed to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute where Shanmugapriyan was pronounced brought dead while Shajan has been admitted to the hospital.

On information, the Grand Bazaar police visited the spot and conducted enquiries. The police have picked up five persons including the restobar owner and four others in connection with the incident. Further investigations are on.
