The Chettipalayam police, with the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Services, on Friday retrieved human skeletal remains from a well at Madukkarai near Coimbatore.
The police stated that the skeletal remains are believed to belong to Jayaraman, 24, of Tirunelveli district.
D. Balamurugan, 45, and P. Murugaperumal, 25, of Tirunelveli district surrendered before the Chettipalayam police on Thursday, stating that they murdered Jayaraman and dumped his body in a well near Madukkarai around 50 days ago.
Murugaperumal knew Balamurugan, who had been working in a stud farm at Malumichampatti, when he served a jail term with him at Palayamkottai prison a few years ago. Murugaperumal and Jayaraman came to Coimbatore two months ago in search of jobs and Balamurugan assisted them.
While surrendering before the police on Thursday, Balamurugan and Murugaperumal claimed to have murdered Jayaraman in a brawl at the stud farm in Malumichampatti 50 days ago. They also claimed that the body was dumped in an abandoned well near Madukkarai.
The well was searched on Friday based on their statement and skeletal remains of a man and a dog were retrieved from it. The police said that samples from the human remains will be examined to verify whether they belonged to Jayaraman, who is missing. Further investigation is on.
