Two residents of Kakkaraikottai hamlet near Orathanadu were fined for capturing Pond Herons, called as ‘Madayan Paravai’ in Tamil.

According to official sources, the duo – Viji and Selvaraj of Kakkaraikottai — were found capturing Pond Herons in the hamlet by a team of Forest Department officials on August 7. The duo were released after they remitted a fine of ₹10,000. The 10 Pond Herons captured by them were released near the waterbody from where they were captured by the duo, sources added.
