The Union Government has approved construction of a new building for the Employee State Insurance (ESI) hospital in Belagavi, Eeranna Kadadi, Rajya Sabha member, said.

The new building will come up at a cost of ₹152 crore. The process of inviting tenders has been initiated, Mr Kadadi stated.

The old building at Ashok Nagar will be demolished, and will be replaced by a new one. The building and staff quarters will be completed in around 30 months.

Mr. Kadadi and Belagavi South MLA Abhay Patil met Union Ministers J. P. Nadda and Shobha Karandlaje in New Delhi recently with a request to start the work soon.

The old building has been declared fit for demolition. Efforts to shift the hospital to a temporary new premises at Yamunapur are on.
