A man was killed and two others were injured after a gas leak triggered an explosion in a residence in the Medchal market area late on Monday (August 4, 2025) night.
According to Medchal Inspector A. Satyanarayana, the incident was reported around 10 p.m. in a cramped room behind a row of shutters, where 56-year-old Tirupatamma resides. “She had switched on the gas stove to cook when the leaked gas exploded,” the officer said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a leak in the gas pipe had allowed gas to accumulate in the poorly ventilated space, leading to a blast when the stove was ignited.
The explosion caused part of the house to collapse, with a section of the wall falling onto the street outside. A pedestrian walking by was killed on the spot, while another passerby sustained injuries.
The identities of the pedestrians are yet to be established.
Ms. Tirupatamma also suffered burn injuries in the incident. Both she and the injured pedestrian were shifted to a hospital and are currently undergoing treatment.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
