The Coimbatore Corporation collected 97.89 tonnes of bulk domestic waste through a special two-day collection drive conducted across the city on August 2 and 3.

According to Corporation officials, 65.44 tonnes of waste were collected on the first day and 32.45 tonnes on the second day. The drive targeted the collection of large household items such as discarded beds, mattresses, sofas, tables, and chairs, which are not covered under routine waste collection.

A senior Corporation official said the drive was intended to prevent such waste from being dumped in open spaces and roadsides. “These bulk items will be segregated and sent to cement factories or handled through other disposal methods,” the official said.
