The 220th death anniversary of freedom fighter Dheeran Chinnamalai was observed at Odanilai village in Arachalur Town Panchayat on Sunday.
Minister for Housing, Prohibition and Excise, S. Muthusamy, paid floral tributes to the statue of Dheeran Chinnamalai and honoured his descendants. Welfare assistance amounting to ₹53.90 lakh was distributed to 55 beneficiaries through various departmental schemes.
“This remembrance event is held annually to honour the sacrifices made in the struggle for India’s Independence,” the Minister said. “Dheeran Chinnamalai was executed near Sankagiri Fort for resisting colonial rule, and his legacy continues to inspire people across the country.”
