The Cyberabad Traffic Police booked a total of 527 individuals for drunk driving during a weekend special drive carried out across its limits.
The majority of the offenders, 404, were found riding two-wheelers under the influence of alcohol, followed by 93 four-wheeler drivers, 24 in three-wheelers, and 6 operating heavy vehicles.
The enforcement, conducted across various traffic police stations in Cyberabad, recorded the highest number of cases at KPHB with 64 bookings, followed by Miyapur (50) and Shamshabad (50), Chevella (44), and Gachibowli (39). Police personnel from 15 police stations were involved in the operation.
Offenders were also categorised by their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels. A total of 456 individuals had BAC levels between 51 and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 47 had levels ranging from 201 to 300 mg/100 ml, and 24 individuals were found with dangerously high BAC levels above 300 mg/100 ml.
Cyberabad Police stated that all the accused will be produced before the court. The department warned that in cases where inebriated driving results in a fatal accident, offenders will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (Culpable Homicide Not Amounting to Murder), which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment and fine.
