In view of the memorial day of freedom fighter Dheeran Chinnamalai, which falls on August 3, the district administration has ordered the closure of liquor outlets in select areas. A release from Collector S. Kandasamy said that all government-run TASMAC liquor shops and bars operating within a 3-km radius of the official celebration venue — Odanilai village near Arachalur — will remain closed on that day as a mark of respect.

The release added that five liquor outlets located within this perimeter must remain closed until 6 p.m. on August 3. Additionally, 13 more outlets in the designated areas must remain closed for the entire day.

The Collector further emphasised that no liquor sales will be permitted in these areas on the memorial day, and strict action will be taken against any violations — including action against individuals involved in illegal liquor sales.

This move is intended to ensure a respectful and peaceful observance of the memorial for Dheeran Chinnamalai, the release said.
