Thirty three kg of chips stored amidst cement bags in a shop at Shozhapuram near Rajapalayam were seized on Thursday along with 5 kg bread and bun as the packages did not have the mandatory date of manufacturing.

A team of officials, led by Virudhunagar District Food Safety Designated Officer S. Mariappan and Rajapalayam Union Food Safety Officer Selvaraj, inspected the shop in connection with an inquiry for a case. The officials then found that the chips packets were kept along with cement bags and cement particles were lying over the packets. Theses packets were seized.

Besides, the team found that 10 kg of chewing tobacco was stocked and the official seized it. However, when the shopkeeper objected to it, the samples of the chewing tobacco were lifted for analysis to find out whether it was exempted by the court, Dr. Mariappan said in a statement.
