The Corporation Council on Wednesday passed a resolution to start work on preparing a land plan schedule for improving road network by creating slip roads and widening various stretches.
The civic body will acquire land to develop slip roads in various parts of the city.
The decision is based on a petition submitted to Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin by Central Chennai MP Dayanidhi Maran.
The GCC will widen MRTS Link Road by acquiring land — 357m in length and 5m in width — from Queen Mary’s College.
Slip roads will be constructed on stretches such as Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai to ease traffic congestion.
The civic body will relay 803 interior roads in Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam, and Adyar zones at ₹80 crore.
The Council also resolved that the GCC would borrow a loan of ₹80 crore, for upgrading of roads, from the Tamil Nadu Urban Finance Infrastructure Development Corporation (TUFIDCO) under the infrastructure funding scheme.
The GCC has also submitted an undertaking that, if for any reason, the projected increase in property tax and professional tax could not be achieved, the shortfall, if arising in any period, shall not affect the timely repayment of its dues to TUFIDCO, and in such a case, the government may be permitted to deduct the said dues from the SFC (State Finance Commission) funds on a first priority basis.
The GCC Council also passed a resolution for a loan of ₹100 crore from Tamil Nadu Urban Development Fund for improvement of bus routes.
The Council passed another resolution to construct footpaths along Basin Bridge Road, Jeramiah Road, Vepery High Road, Narayana Guru Road, Choolai High Road, Kavimani Road, Church Road, Anna Nagar Sixth Avenue, Velachery Main Road, Kakkan Nagar Main Road, Five Furlong Road, City Link Road, Brindavan Nagar Main Road, P.S. Kumaraswamy Raja Salai, G.N. Chetty Road, Anna Nagar Thirteenth Main Road, C.V. Raman Road, Ashok Nagar Twelfth Avenue, and Dr. Besant Road.
