A group of people belonging to Paliyar tribe on Monday submitted a petition to Dindigul Collector urging the authorities to ensure that basic amenities were provided to the people.

In their petition, the residents complained that the Vadakadu panchayat administration was not providing adequate drinking water to the Paliyar settlements under the panchayat. An overhead tank was constructed for providing water to the residents.

Water from the overhead tank was being provided to other residents while it was being denied to Paliyar tribe settlements. Water from a ground level water tank was provided to the Paliyar settlements. The water from this tank was not sufficient for 28 families and it was being supplied once in three days, they said.

Despite bringing this to the notice of the authorities, no action has been taken so far. The water from the overhead tank should be provided to all the residents, they said.
