A two-year-old girl drowned in an irrigation channel near Suchindram on Tuesday.

Police said M. Namithra of Manikattipottal near Suchindram, who was playing in front of her house on Tuesday, accidentally fell into the channel and drowned.

The girl’s parents, Mahesh and Manju, and neighbours rescued her immediately and took her to the nearby hospital, where doctors declared the baby brought dead.

Suchindram police have registered a case.
