Two councillors of the Corporation submitted petitions to Mayor G. Ramakrishnan on Tuesday seeking better basic amenities.

Councillor M. Muthulakshmi submitted a petition seeking the early construction of the building for the ration shop in ward 2 and road and drainage channels in Mangala Kudiyiruppu, Karaiyiruppu and Azhaganeri in her ward.

“I’ve submitted several petitions to the Mayor pressing these demands, and no step has been taken so far. If the Corporation continues to ignore my ward, I’ll mobilise the residents of ward 2 against the urban civic body administration,” Ms. Muthulakshmi warned.

Councillor of ward 51 D. Sahaya Juliet Mary submitted a petition seeking 25 street lights at Tuckerammalpuram (10), Teachers’ Colony (3), Roja Nagar and Lloyd’s Colony (1 each) and Thirunagar (5), Karpaga Vinayagar Nagar (5) and another 39 lights with higher watts in the same areas.

Ms. Mary also urged the Corporation officials to shift the electric poles standing on the middle of the road in SMR Nagar in her ward.

On behalf of the BJP, a petition was submitted seeking the repairing of the roads in Periyapalayam and Parvathi Amman Temple Street in Thatchanallur.

The residents of Masillamani Nagar submitted petition seeking regular supply of drinking water.

Widow S. Mumtaz of Melapalayam submitted a petition seeking the early issue of death certificate for her husband Syed Ali. She said Syed Ali, who had gone to Bengaluru, suffered cardiac arrest and was admitted in a hospital. After undergoing treatment, he was sent back to Melapalayam. However, he breathed his last while being taken to Melapalayam in an ambulance on January 3 last.

“We performed the last rites in our home in Melapalayam and was laid to rest in a mosque here. Hence, I request the Corporation officials to issue death certificate for my husband,” Ms. Mumtaz said.
