The city police claimed that it had averted a revenge murder that was going to happen on Sunday in J.J. Nagar by swiftly arresting the gang members of both sides. Seven persons including a juvenile were arrested by police in connection with the case.
Police sources said they received information that Sakthi, 24, of Ayanambakkam and his associates were planning to take revenge on the killers of his brother Kalidoss, 26, a history sheeter who was hacked to death by a gang launched by Kutty alias Viravinraj, 27, of Mogappair East in 2024 in JJ Nagar police limits. Following constant monitoring over suspects of both sides, police on Sunday evening received information that two persons who were hiding in Kalaivanar Colony Park, JJ Nagar, with weapons and a plan to finish off opponent gang members including Kutty. At the time of his death in 2024 Sakthi’s brother Kalidoss phoned the former and told him that Kutty alias Viravinraj was the main culprit who hacked him.
When a clash between two groups was about to happen at the park on Sunday evening , a special team of police personnel under Assistant Commissioner of Police, Thirumangalam R.D. Brahamanandan rushed to the spot. On seeing the police force, two suspects Sakthi and his associate took to their heels and escaped on a bike from the park. They also chased the duo who were speeding on a bike and alerted the police personnel in the neighbouring Maduravoyal police using a police communication device. Maduravoyal police personnel caught the duo when they were driving rashly and the public also thrashed the duo. Police arrested Sakthi, 24 and his associate Jayanthan, 19 of Padikuppam at Perumal Koil Street. Police said the duo had also robbed money from a person during the ride.
In the meantime, JJ Nagar police launched investigation to find out who were all escaped with knives from the park and quickly arrested Kutty alias Viravinraj, 27 and his associates- Deepak, 24, Babloo alias Raj Ganesh, 26, Siddharth, 18 and 17-year-old juvenile- all are from Mogappair East and adjoining areas. They told police that they had previous enmity with Sakthi and were planning to settle the score. Since they had no money to execute the plan, they were having weapons in their hands and discussing a plan at the park to get money through robbery or snatching. They escaped from the park after seeing police personnel, said police.
