The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have nominated Satya Sharma (Ward 226) and Hema (Ward 184) respectively for the upcoming election to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) Standing Committee. The poll is scheduled to be held on June 3.
The seat fell vacant after Gajendra Daral was elected to the Delhi Legislative Assembly in the February 5 Assembly poll.
The BJP, which currently holds a majority with 117 councillors in the MCD House, is likely to take control of the Standing Committee following the election. However, the committee, responsible for overseeing financial matters and policymaking, has yet to be constituted.
AAP has faced several setbacks in recent months, including the loss of the Mayor’s post to the BJP and the emergence of the Indraprastha Vikas Party, a bloc of independent councillors originally elected on AAP tickets.
