An autorickshaw driver M. Karumalai, 25, of Ambedkar Colony in Perungudi was hacked to death by an unidentified gang in the same locality on Sunday afternoon.

His friend, Balamurugan, who was with him at the time of attack, sustained head injuries and has been admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital, where the body of Karumalai has been taken to.

The police said that the victims were walking on the road when the armed gang, said to be around six persons, came on a motorbike, waylaid Karumalai and attacked him with lethal weapons. When Balamurugan tried to prevent the attack, he too sustained injuries.

After slaying Karumalai, the gang escaped from the scene.

The police said that the deceased was an accused in the murder case in 2024 and suspect that the attack on him could be a revenge.

Perungudi police are investigating the case.
