“The deletion of 66 lakh voters from Bihar voters’ list is a huge scam,” said senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP P. Chidambaram.
During a press meet here on Saturday, he said, “There were allegations of inclusion of bogus voters in Maharashtra. So, unable to do the same in Bihar, the BJP government through the Election Commission, has deleted voters.”
Further, many permanent residents of the State work in other States, would they not go back to Bihar to vote during the election, he questioned.
Adding to that, he said, “Have 22 lakh people died within 12 months of the Lok Sabha elections? Was it not with this voter list that Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister.”
Where there were other ways to prevent bogus voting, the Election Commission was changing the voter list with a motive, and that was what they were opposing, he added.
Earlier, he laid stone for a dialysis centre at Thiruppathur Government Hospital in Sivaganga district. It is to be built under Mr. Chidambaram’s constituency development fund at a cost of ₹63 lakh.
He also inaugurated a dialysis centre built at Singampunari Government Hospital at a cost of ₹65 lakh.
Minister for Co-operation K. R. Periyakaruppan, Lok Sabha MP Karti Chidambaran, District Collector K. Porkodi, among others, were present during the event.
