A slew of resolutions, including opposition to privatisation of electricity board, were passed at the annual general body meeting of Central Organisation of Tamil Nadu Electricity Employees (COTEE) held here on Saturday.
R. Guruvel, district vice-president, COTEE, said the DMK government had not fulfilled its promise to carry out monthly household electricity readings. “In the bimonthly reading system, the electricity bill will be comparatively more than the monthly reading.”
About 60,000 existing vacancies in the State should be immediately filled. “In Ramanathapuram district alone, a whopping 57% vacancies exist. Due to the insufficient workforce, the burden on the existing workforce is unbearable,” he added.
In this worrisome situation, workers and engineers were yet to receive their salary increment for more than two years now. “But the last increment should have been approved on December 1, 2023, but it is still pending,” he noted.
Above all, the privatisation plans of the Union government would destroy the whole sector, which was operating with the benefit of serving people, he said.
