Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has said that preference would be given for the infrastructure development projects at the Brihadeesvara Temple (Big Temple), a UNESCO World Heritage Monument, in Thanjavur.

Disclosing this to the media here on Saturday, the Union Minister said that the Big Temple, being an important architectural and historical site, attracts visitors in large numbers. The Union Government, which implements development works at the tourism and architecturally important sites on a preferential basis, would continue to improve facilities for visitors at the Big Temple.

Earlier, he inspected the renovation work being carried out at the Tanjore Palace complex in the town.

Sudhanandakumar Khan, Superintending Archaeologist, Tiruchi Region; Sankar and Raja, Senior Conservation Officers of the ASI officials accompanied the Union Minister.
