As part of the State conference of the Communist Party of India (CPI) to be held in Alappuzha from September 8 to 12,  a meeting to mark the centenary of the party will be organised at Vayalar in Alappuzha. The centenary celebration will be held on August 19, the death anniversary of P. Krishna Pillai, one of the founding leaders of the CPI. CPI State secretary Binoy Viswam will inaugurate the event. Revenue Minister K. Rajan will deliver the keynote address.

Speaking to mediapersons in Alappuzha on Saturday, Agriculture Minister P. Prasad said that 1,000 family gatherings would be organised across the district as part of the State conference. The district-level inauguration of the family gatherings will be held at Mannancherry on Sunday at 4.30 p.m. CPI leader Pannian Raveendran will inaugurate the event.

A trade union seminar will be held at Alappuzha Town Hall on August 10 at 3 p.m. All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) vice-president K. Subbarayan will inaugurate the seminar. Centre of Indian Trade Unions State president T.P. Ramakrishnan, Indian National Trade Union Congress State president R. Chandrasekharan, AITUC State general secretary K.P. Rajendran and others will attend.
