An omnibus, reportedly driven negligently, rammed multiple vehicles, killing one person and injuring several others, at Chinniyampalayam on Avinashi Road in Coimbatore late on Friday (July 25, 2025).

The injured persons were admitted to different hospitals.

The police said that an omnibus of ‘Vetri Travels’ caused the accident at 7.45 p.m., leading to a pileup.

According to the police, the Perambalur-bound bus came to a halt after rear-ending a truck, following collisions with two cars and a few two-wheelers. The rear of one car was completely damaged in the impact. The front of the bus was also damaged when it hit the rear of the truck, before ramming other vehicles.

The police said they could not confirm whether the deceased was a motorist or a pedestrian.

Traffic along one side of Avinashi Road, from the Airport Junction, came to a halt after the accident. Snarls continued on the stretch from the Airport Junction to Chinniyampalayam till 11 p.m. Senior police officers visited the accident spot. The Traffic Investigation Wing, Coimbatore East, has launched an investigation.
