With several roads in Pammal and Anakaputhur dug up for sewage pipeline work, residents complain that Kalaignar Road, a vital link road for those from Pozhichalur to reach Grand Southern Trunk (GST) Road, is in bad condition.

The road also connects Nallamthambai Road, Abdul Sahib Road, and Radhakrishnan Main Road.

The road’s current condition has been causing severe hardship to motorists and pedestrians, say residents. Nallathambi Road and Abdul Sahib Road are important commercial roads that have shops, marriage halls, and educational institutions on both sides.

Risk to motorists

T. Shankararaman of Pozhichalur said Kalaignar Road was the main road one had to use to reach Abdul Sahib Road, and the bad condition of the road had put motorists, especially two-wheeler riders, at risk. Residents are worried that the road would turn slushy after even short spells of rain. This could cause two-wheelers to skid and fall.

M. Yousuf of Pammal wanted the Tambaram Corporation to pave the road before the monsoon started, as in its current state, it would become unmotorable during the rainy season.

Residents of the locality lamented that several surrounding interior streets had also been dug up for sewage pipeline work and wanted these to be relayed at the earliest.

A senior official of the Tambaram Corporation said the sewage pipeline work was yet to be completed.

Once the pipeline work is completed, a temporary restoration of the road will be carried out. The road will be completely relaid only after the Northeast monsoon, he added.
