Delhi’s monsoon-induced waterlogging woes continued to spark a political blame game on Thursday, with an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader taking a boat ride on a flooded road in north-east Delhi’s Khajuri Khas area and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta holding the previous AAP government responsible for the city’s current situation.
“During the Delhi Assembly election campaign, BJP leader Kapil Mishra repeatedly claimed that if his party formed the government, he would become a Minister and permanently resolve Karawal Nagar’s waterlogging problem. The people trusted him and elected him, but still the area’s residents are suffering,” said former AAP councillor Manoj Tyagi, who took a boat ride on the road outside the Khajuri Khas police station.
Ms. Gupta attributed the waterlogging woes to “misgovernance” during the previous AAP government and said her government is working to rectify the issue. “To those who talk about waterlogging, I say thank you. You keep pointing out these issues. Tell us where the problems lie and we will fix them immediately,” she said.
Yamuna level recedes
Meanwhile, the water level of the Yamuna river in Delhi receded on Thursday after coming close to the ‘danger mark’ a day earlier. According to officials, there was no threat of a flood-like situation.
The meteorological department has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rain on Friday.
