The East-Coast Coconut Farmers’ Association, Peravurani (ECFA), has appealed to the AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami to recommend to the Union Government to set up a unit of Coconut Development Board in their region for the benefit of coconut cultivators.
In a memorandum submitted to the AIADMK general secretary and Leader of Opposition at Pattukottai on July 24, the association pointed out that recently the CDB’s Zonal Office had been shifted to Coimbatore from Chennai.
Stating that both Chennai and Coimbatore were far off from their region, the association requested the Leader of Opposition to recommend setting up of a CDB Unit Office either at Pattukottai or Peravurani.
Similarly, the association sought the party’s support for ECFA’s demand for setting up Krishi Vigyan Kendra and the Bio-Control Laboratory for Rugose Spiralling Whitefly in their region for the benefit of coconut cultivators.
Distribution of coconut oil through public distribution system, implementation of coconut cultivator-friendly crop insurance scheme and scrapping of ban on toddy tapping were the other demands putforth in the memorandum.
