The Greater Chennai Corporation removed 2,00,268.50 metric tonnes of construction and demolition (C&D) waste between January 7 and July 22, 2025.
According to a press release, penalties worth ₹39.30 lakh were collected between this period for violations.
As per data, zone-wise, Teynampet recorded the highest removal at 20,589.15 metric tonnes, followed by Adyar and Anna Nagar Zones. Manali Zone had the lowest amount of C&D collected at 7,348.65 metric tonnes.
The release said debris clearance resumed across the city’s seven zones on January 7, 2025, after resolving a legal issue. From January 17, 2025, this was expanded to all 15 zones, with 168 vehicles to clear about 1,000 metric tonnes of waste daily.
“Debris was transported to processing centres at Kodungaiyur and Perungudi for recycling. The contractor must inspect locations three times a week and remove waste after approval via a mobile app,” the release said.
