St. Thomas Mount Police on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old man who allegedly murdered his seven- year-old daughter at a hotel room following a domestic quarrel with his wife.

The man has been identified as Sathish,38, of Ayanavaram who is a sound service provider. He had married Rebecca eight years ago. The couple had frequent quarrels and had been living separately since 2024 after the wife filed a police complaint over physical assault, leading to his arrest at the time.

On Monday, after another argument during which he allegedly threatened to kill her, the wife lodged a complaint at the Otteri police station. Police summoned the man for inquiry, but he left home to avoid inquiry. He took his daughter with him and checked into a hotel in Alandur around 11 pm on Monday.

In the early morning of Tuesday, he called his sister and informed that he had killed his daughter, and added he would be going to end his life. She rushed to the hotel, found both unconscious, and alerted police. They were taken Government Royapettah Hospital, where the girl was declared brought dead. The man survived and has been admitted for treatment.

Based on his wife’s complaint, Police registered a case and arrested Sathish on Wednesday while he was undergoing treatment at the hospital.
